Hormonal contraceptives are methods that prevent pregnancy by suppressing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus, and causing changes in the endometrium, through medications that contain estrogen and/or progestin. Combined oral contraceptives, progestin-only pills, injections, implants, and vaginal rings are all included in this group. Although hormonal contraceptives are highly effective, they must be used with caution due to health risks such as hypertension, thromboembolic events, and migraines.
