I attended the European Contraception Congress held in 1998 in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic.<\/p>\n

I must have been influenced. On my way back, while heading to a Urogynecology meeting in D\u00fczce, I shared my thoughts with my close friend Dr. B\u00fclent TIRA\u015e and suggested that we organize a ‘Family Planning Congress’ in our country.<\/p>\n

We started the preparations for the congress in this way.<\/p>\n

We went to the then-President, Mr. S\u00fcleyman DEM\u0130REL, and shared our thoughts with him. He said, \u201cYoung people, family planning is very important. The first law was passed in 1965 during my time as Prime Minister.<\/em>.\u201d Then, he asked us about the date of the congress. When we said April 14-17, 1999, he replied, \u201cIt will be right before the elections, I won\u2019t be too busy, and if no important state matters come up, I will personally attend and open the congress.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

These words gave us tremendous strength. The opening was conducted by the then-President, Mr. Demirel, who gave a speech that would go down in history.<\/p>\n

Foreign speakers, especially Americans, listened to the simultaneous translation through their headphones. They were greatly impressed. In the foyer and during meals, they constantly spoke highly of it. Thanks to the President’s participation, our congress made a significant impact in the media and, consequently, on every platform.<\/p>\n

We started this endeavor with an amateur spirit. However, we thought this approach wouldn’t be sufficient, so in 2000, we founded the Contraception and Reproductive Health Association. Those who were passionate about family planning gathered under the umbrella of the association. In 2001, we held the second congress, this time internationally, in Antalya. With the support of the Turkish Promotion Fund, approximately 150 participants from Turkic States attended. The opening of the congress was made by the then Minister of Health, Dr. Osman DURMU\u015e.<\/p>\n

We began holding our subsequent congresses every two years in our capital, Ankara. In 2006, we ensured that the “9th Congress of the European Society of Contraception” was held in Istanbul, and we played an active role in planning the congress as the host.<\/p>\n

After our sixth congress, we started organizing more local training meetings. Our last large-scale meeting was held in Sapanca in 2016.<\/p>\n

The main purpose of our association can be summarized as carrying out the necessary activities to “protect and improve women’s health at every stage of life.” For this purpose, with our book titled “Adolescent Health,” we have examined many topics, ranging from gynecological issues to dermatological problems in adolescents, from the factors affecting adolescent health to the legal practices related to these issues, in collaboration with experts in the field.<\/p>\n

As we have done so far, we will continue to implement many of our projects in this field, hand in hand with all our stakeholders working in the fields of women’s health and reproductive health.<\/p>\n
