The Lactational Amenorrhea Method (LAM) is used as a natural form of birth control for breastfeeding mothers. Frequent and intensive breastfeeding suppresses the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, preventing ovulation. The method is most effective during the first six months postpartum, provided the mother has not yet menstruated and is exclusively breastfeeding. However, its effectiveness decreases if complementary foods are introduced or breastfeeding becomes less frequent.
